Current Status
State-led Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) projects include the Pulp & Paper of America R&D Building in Berlin, Bradford Green/Naughton site in Bradford, Bristol Mica Factory in Bristol, East Coast Steel in Greenfield, Contoocook Valley Paper in Henniker, and the Kaminski Property in Mont Vernon. Through their Site Assessment Demonstration Pilot, NH DES has also funded site asssessment activities at the Woodsville Rail Yard in Haverhill, the Robert Riley property in New Boston, the Seppalo and Aho property in New Ipswich, Surrette Battery in Northfield, and Pillsbury Mill in Tilton
After a site assessment funded via the state’s Assessment Demonstration Pilot, the town of Haverhill has purchased the former Woodsville Rail Yard and, with the added help of a DOT Scenic Byways Grant, plans to convert the property to greenspace, with trails and a parking area.
In New Ipswich, at the former Seppalo and Aho property, site assessment work conducted by the state under their Assessment Demonstration Pilot enabled the town to convert this former construction company property into a municipal complex, including town offices, police department, and a public works garage.
After extensive cleanup work under EPA’s Removal Program and site assessment activities conducted by the state under their Assessment Demonstration Pilot, the town of Northfield has acquired the former Surrette Battery property with plans to construct an assisted living facility in the future.
Studied via the state’s Assessment Demonstration Pilot program, the town of Tilton now hopes to transform the former Tilton Tanning/Pillsbury Mill site into a town green.
The Assessment Grant was closed on December 16, 2003.
