Description
Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, a 160 acre site in North Haven, manufactures component parts of jet engines. The site operated a lagoon which received sludges from the treatment of electroplating wastes. Some investigation work was conducted under a facility lead agreement with EPA and the site has now entered the CTDEP Property Transfer Act Program. The most significant contamination at the site is a release of trichloroethylene from a former above ground storage tank. The release area has been contained with a sheet piling cutoff wall and the plume of contaminated groundwater which flowed from this area has shown declining concentrations since this action. The site is surrounded by other industrial/commercial uses and has had no public involvement conducted to date.
