Description

Gilbert & Bennett Manufacturing Company, Georgetown, CT (a village in the town of Redding) manufactured wire fencing products and operated two unlined hazardous waste lagoons, one drying pit and three waste piles (located south of route 107). This former hazardous waste storage and disposal facility generated waste acids, alkalis, solvents, oils, lead and zinc galvanizing waste and metal hydroxide sludge. The G&B Mfg. Co. filed for bankruptcy in 1998. A Consent Agreement and Final Order and Voluntary Corrective Action Agreement were the mechanisms driving Corrective Action. In 2002, the facility was acquired by Georgetown Land Development Company.

The Georgetown Land Development Project was been approved by the town but the redevelopment of the facility has stalled due to economic downturn. No manufacturing is currently taking place on the property. Refer to www.Georgetowngreen.com for more information.
