A Phase I Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) was completed on 2/26/2001 and a Phase II Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) was completed on 2/19/2002. The city removed petroleum tanks from the site in 2001 and completed the Remedial Action Plan (RAP) for the site. The RAP calls for the cleanup of contaminated soil and groundwater on the property. The city opened bids on June 6, 2003 for contractors to remediate the site. It is estimated that the remediation will cost at least $1.4 million dollars and will be completed in 120 days from the start date. Once the remediation is completed, the site will be greenspace that will provide open space for residents who use the community center that is located adjacent to site. Eventually the city hopes to turn the site into a community park. The community center adjacent to site is having a grand opening ceremony in the late fall of 2003.
