In keeping with the Administrator's desire to assure
that EPA's Internet Web site is optimally accessible and coherent, guidelines
have been developed to promote a standard uniform format for all EPA's
web pages. We now ask every program office and region to cooperate in
applying this standard uniform format to your specific Internet pages.
These guidelines were developed by an Agency wide workgroup
composed of representatives from every program office and region. They
represent a consensus approach to achieving uniformity without sacrificing
program or regional distinctiveness. The approach involves consistent
use of the EPA logo, standard colors and page elements, and naming conventions
for items on the pages.
The guidelines for the new format are available on the EPA Intranet at http://intranet.epa.gov/site/. Adoption of these guidelines is mandatory and at this stage apply to the EPA home page, all pages directly subordinate to the EPA home page, all
program office, regional, and lab program home pages, and all pages one level down from these home pages. Eventually, it is expected that every page on the Web site will follow this format, so that visitors will always know that they are on the EPA pages.
We ask that your pages be modified to conform to the
standard by the following dates:
- EPA home page - August 15, 1997
- Program office, regional, and lab program home pages
- September 15, 1997
- Subordinate pages - September 30, 1997.
We are confident of meeting this expedited implementation
schedule because many of the implementors have been involved in the guidance
development process of this new format. If you or your staff require clarification
and/or assistance with these guidelines, please contact Joseph Anderson
of OARM at (202) 260-3016 Jonda Byrd (byrd.jonda@epa.gov) at 513-569-718.
