Accuracy of Online Information
Complete accuracy of information is an important goal. This is true for the content of the document and the construction (HTML markup) of the document.
HTML does not precisely mimic the printed page. The formatting adjustments which are required to present information in HTML do not compromise accuracy if they faithfully convey the information in a document.
Care should be exercised in the following areas:
- Information on which users may base important decisions (e.g., proposed regulations, environmental data, grant application deadlines, policy guidance, etc.)
- Inaccuracies which compromise meaning (e.g., missing text, misaligned table cells, etc.).
- Cosmetic flaws (e.g., non-italicized titles, missing em-dashes, etc.).
Before uploading any HTML document, the markup and spelling should be checked and all links verified. Use your word processor's spell checker for spelling. HTML markup can be checked by using a HTML validation tool such as the W3C Markup Validation Service
.
