Grants for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Research
Description
The Center provides grants to eligible organizations for energy research on topics that have strong relevance to Iowa. Past grants have supported research in bio fuels, wind resource assessment, photovoltaic research, biomass gasification, energy-efficient livestock confinement ventilation, process manufacturing efficiency, and commercial building HVAC control, among many other topics.
Amounts
Total of $1.3 million. Individual amounts vary.
Eligibility
Eligible organizations are Iowa’s colleges and universities, Iowa-based private nonprofit organizations, and Iowa-based foundations. Private sector research partnerships are encouraged.
Application Deadline
Some grant applications accepted on a rolling basis, some are due Nov. 7 of each year.

Iowa Renewable Fuel Fund
Description
This program is a value-added grant/loan program. The renewable fuel fund is one of two separate programs under the Value-Added Agricultural Products and Processes Financial Assistance Program (VAAPFAP). A sample of funded projects include six ethanol plants, two soy process plants and a methane recapture program for hog farmers.
Amounts
Up to $400,000 per project, for a total of about $2 million. Approximately 20% of the money awarded to a project is in the form of a grant and the remaining 80% is in the form of a low-interest loan.
Eligibility
Farms and business located in Iowa. Research and development projects are not eligible for this program.

Alternate Energy Revolving Loan Program
Description
This program seeks to promote the development of renewable energy production facilities throughout the state of Iowa. Funds are reserved for various types of renewable energy production facilities to ensure that the program serves a balanced mix of technologies. These technologies include solar, biomass, small hydro, and small and large wind turbine facilities.
Amounts
The AERLP provides low-interest loans to individuals and organizations who want to build alternate energy production facilities in Iowa. The AERLP provides 50% of the total loan, up to a maximum of $250,000.

Individuals and organizations who want to build alternate energy production facilities in Iowa.
Application Deadline
Applications for funding of over $50,000 reviewed January 31, April 30, July 31 and October 31 each year. All applications received during a given cycle will be reviewed at the close of that cycle. Applications for funds less than $50,000 are reviewed on a continuous basis.
