Alaska Conservation Foundation
Program Description
The Alaska Conservation Foundation (ACF) provides grants for the purpose of protecting the integrity of Alaska's ecosystems and to promote sustainable livelihoods among Alaska's communities and peoples. ACF gives both operating support and project grants. The grantmaking focus includes environmental advocacy, community development, public communication, public policy and rural affairs.

Range from $500 - $25K for a total of $1.6M annually.

Foundation
Bonneville Environmental Foundation
Program Description
Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) supplies funding through various means, including grants, loans, convertible loans, guarantees, and direct investments in renewable energy projects. The nature of the project and the ability of BEF to effectively leverage funds will determine the form in which funding is provided. The group focuses investment in areas that include, but are not limited to, new solar, wind, and geothermal projects. Projects that generate electricity are preferred.
Amounts
Range from a few thousand dollars to more significant investments. Grants in response to proposals will usually be on the lower end of this range. BEF share will not exceed 33% of total capital costs.

Foundation
The Energy Foundation
Program Description
The Energy Foundation provides funding to advance energy efficiency and renewable energy use. Grants fall under four categories: Power, Buildings, Transportation, US Clean Energy Program. Funds are to be used to promote policies and voluntary actions to improve energy efficiency and renewable energy use. Preference is give to projects with a regional focus within the United States.
Amounts
No limit. Past grants have ranged from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Eligibility
Must be a nonprofit charitable organization. Funds may not be used to support: political or religious campaigns, R&D projects, demonstration projects, community energy projects, or to retrofit buildings to be more energy efficient.
Application Deadline
Rolling application. However, proposals should be received 23 weeks prior to the next board meeting to be considered during that meeting. The board meets in the first week of March, last week of June, and first week of November.

Program Description
The Ford Foundation's Community and Resource Development Program's Environment and Development section seeks to aid people and groups to acquire, protect and improve land, water, forests, wildlife and other natural assets in ways that help reduce poverty and injustice. Through various grants the foundation helps low-income people and communities sustainably utilize their natural resource assets.

Foundation
The Kirsch Foundation
Program Description
The Kirsch Foundation is interested in funding efforts that reduce air pollution from mobile sources, support the development and use of alternative, clean fuel technologies, eliminate industrial and consumer dependence on diesel fuel, and/or eradicate global warming impacts.
Amounts
A total of $300,000 is available. Grants are generally available in amounts ranging from $10,000 to $25,000.

Foundation
Virginia Environmental Endowment (VEE)
Program Description
Grantmaking priorities in the Virginia Program are focused on water quality research and monitoring of water quality conditions; land and open space conservation; Chesapeake Bay fisheries conservation, research, and education; and environmental education.
Amounts
Average award is approximately $25K.
Matching funds required.
Mini-Grant award is $5,000.

State and local governments are eligible for Virginia Program, but not mini-grants; schools and nonprofits are eligible for all grants;
VEE gives preference to the state of Virginia, the Kanawha and Ohio River Valleys, and the Martins Ferry areas.

Northwest Fund for the Environment
Program Description
Grants are partially or fully funded for selected environmental efforts. Supporting action to:
A) Preserve threatened and endangered species and/or ecosystems; B) Preserve and maximize natural biodiversity;
C) Implement and enforce environmental laws and regulations;
D) Fund research directly relevant to Washington state on a limited, negotiated basis;
E) Strengthen the effectiveness of nonprofit environmental groups.
Amounts
Fund provides project and general support grants up to $20,000 per year.

Wallace Global Fund
Program Description
The mission of the Wallace Global Fund is to catalyze and leverage critically needed global progress towards an equitable and environmentally sustainable society. Preference is given to projects that involve:
-Policy research and action on a global or regional level;
-Public/private sector partnerships;
-Collaboration among nongovernmental organizations;
-Utilization of market mechanisms.
Amounts
The average grant size is $50,000, with actual grant awards ranging from $2,000 to $400,000. The Fund makes both one-year and multi-year grants.

Public Welfare Foundation
Program Description
The Public Welfare Foundation supports efforts to prevent and reduce pollution and to promote remediation of environmental health problems. By aiding in increased availability of technical assistance and providing training and services to affected communities, the foundation helps ensure that the most highly-affected communities have full and informed participation in local, state and national policy decision-making. Grants focus on the expansion of links between environmental organizations and scientific, health and education disciplines, but remain flexible to respond to emerging issues and conditions.

Average grant is $42,268. Most grants fall between $25,000 and $50,000.

Program Description
The Bullitt Foundation focuses its attention in the Pacific Northwest. The Foundation funds nonprofit organizations that serve Washington, Oregon, Idaho, British Columbia, western Montana (including the Rocky Mountain Range), and the rain forest region of southeastern Alaska. The majority of grantees are citizen groups working to build and strengthen environmental education programs and teach the importance of protecting and restoring the environment.

North American Fund for Environmental Cooperation
Program Description
NAFEC supports projects that: 1) Are community-based (involve a clearly defined community of stakeholders who actively participate in the design and implementation of the project); 2) Respond to a specific issue or problem and lead to concrete results; 3) Reflect cooperative and equitable partnerships between or among organizations from different sectors and/or countries within North America; 4) Meet the objectives of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) (by complementing the current CEC program); 5) Strengthen and build the capacities of local people, organizations and institutions; 6) Emphasize sustainability; 7) Link environmental, social and economic issues; and 8) Leverage additional support, but are unlikely to obtain full funding from other sources.
